Our History
Dunedin Sewing Machine Repairs was established in 1986 and was purchased by Mike McNulty in 1993.
1998 saw the business expanding and a move to new premises was needed as part of this. The move was to its present location, 173 King Edward Street, Dunedin.
Mike was incredibly knowledgeable and respected nationally as a leading sewing machine mechanic.
Upon Mike's unexpected passing in 2023, Sharon Rose took over the business and worked tirelessly to keep the machine repair service available for Dunedin.
Sharon was Mikes partner and worked along side him both in the workshop, assisting with repairs, and behind the counter in the shop, assisting customers with knitting and sewing machine questions and sales.
An incredibly talented textile crafter, her passion (especially for sewing and knitting), saw her grow the shop into an inviting space for all. Her love of encouraging and empowering people to start or restart their hobby of sewing or knitting still shines through in the shop.

Our Present
|
In August of 2025, Sharon sold the business to Abi Walker. At the time Abi's recent working past was in academia (as a Physiology Senior Teaching Fellow at the University of Otago), but don't let that fool you as to her practical abilities.
Abi has enjoyed sewing for most of her life and has a passion for machinery and engineering. She has completed the polytechnic course for small appliance eletrical repairs, and is working through the in-practice portion of obtaining an Electrical Appliance Serviceperson (EAS) qualificaion. Abi has renamed the business "Stitch Prescription Ltd" as a nod to her past in health sciences, as well as to encompass all parts of the current business: sewing machine repair, yarn and knitting supplies and new and revitalised sewing machine and overlocker sales. |
Abi is running this family business (alongside her husband Grant and daughter Liz) with the
exceptional work of Julie, Kerri, Lucy and Harri.
